PGX is a highly purified fiber blend, processed using advanced proprietary EnviroSimplex™ technology. PGX is the result of many years of extensive clinical and laboratory research at the University of Toronto, and in collaboration with the Canadian Center for Functional Medicine. When blended with water, the WellBetX Meal Replacement Drink Mix initially creates a smooth appealing texture. Once ingested, PGX continues to thicken and gently expand for a few hours as it absorbs water. To avoid dehydration, it is important to drink plenty of water with PGX. By gently expanding in the stomach and intestine, PGX keeps the appetite under control for several hours and provides a sense of fullness. The viscosity (thickness) and expansion of PGX are greater than any other fiber or fiber blend ever studied.
PGX’s superior viscosity and resultant physiological effects are the result of its unique blend. The best selected konjac (glucomannan) is mixed, with other water soluble fibers in a highly specific ratio, using a unique proprietary process, to produce PGX. This process increases the viscosity of the original material by 3 to 5 times. PGX thickens relatively slowly after mixing with water, achieving its maximum viscosity after 60 – 90 minutes. PGX™: Controlling Appetite and Hormone Release
PGX slowly absorbs about 6 times its weight in water, resulting in a high volume of food material that provides a lasting sense of fullness. Studies show that a sense of fullness in the stomach causes the release of a signaling hormone called “CCK” which alerts the brain that the stomach is full and the person should stop eating. When PGX is taken before a meal, or as a meal replacement, a sense of fullness develops quickly. At the University of Toronto, studies showed that rapidly following ingestion of PGX the body released significant amounts of CCK. In this way PGX sends a strong signal to stop eating. Later, when PGX is in the intestine, it remains highly volumetric and viscous, delaying the return of hunger pangs, making it easier for overweight individuals to cut back on food intake.

PGX™: An Effective Solution for Insulin Resistance
PGX may be the most effective solution for insulin resistance ever discovered! Research presented at the 64th Annual Scientific Session of the American Diabetes Association demonstrates that in overweight, insulin resistant subjects, PGX lowered after-meal blood glucose by approximately 20% and also lowered insulin secretion by approximately 40%, producing a whole body insulin sensitivity index improvement of nearly 50%. Because insulin sensitivity is restored, when PGX is used regularly hypoglycemic cravings are eliminated and reducing food intake becomes a much more achievable goal.
PGX™: Positive Cholesterol Control
Two studies showed that consumption of this fiber blend significantly reduced total and LDL-cholesterol. This effect could be compared with the cholesterol lowering effect of a modest dose of potent cholesterol lowering medication (“statin” drugs). It is reasonable to say that the results achieved with the fiber blend are complementary to the effect of drugs, since patients were kept on their regular cholesterol lowering medication throughout the entire length of the study.2, 3 A study using PGX on individuals who suffered from Metabolic Syndrome, Syndrome X, showed that patients who consumed PGX, considerably improved their overall metabolic control by reducing insulin resistance. This was demonstrated by reductions in total-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, total/HDL-cholesterol, LDL/HDL-cholesterol and apolipoprotein A/B ratio.
