Product: Vitamin C Extra (500 mg 90 capsules)*
Asked on: January 19, 2016
Question: I bruise easily and I heard from a friend that this vitamin may help me?

0 0 A: Age related bruising occurs when the tiny capillaries break after a blunt trauma. As we age, the skin becomes thinner and the blood vessels become fragile, which may result in the smallest bump to show bruising. Consuming at least 1000 mg of Vitamin C per day is important to keep the collagen in the skin strong. Supplementing with bioflavanoids such as Rutin, Hesperidin are helpful because they decrease the capillary fragility. Vote down - Vote up

Product: Phenocane Curcumin (120 capsules)
Asked on: January 13, 2016
Question: I have a 18 pound dog and this product has been recommended as part of his protocol. He just had a bought with liver issues but is doing well now. Just checking to see if there are any contradictions. Thanks!

0 0 A: It is not uncommon for veterinarians who are experienced in holistic medicine to suggest a product like Phenocane for dogs with arthritic conditions resulting in pain and inflammation. Phenocane is a natural pain reliever for adults and has been shown to be helpful in animals as well. Curcumin, DL-phenylaline, Boswelia and Nattokinase work synergistically to reduce whole body inflammation. Curcumin and Turmeric are interchangeable as curcumin is an extraxt of turmeric. A clinical study with humans was published in the BCM Complimentary and Alternative Medicine, and is shedding light on the benefits of curcumin in not only addressing pain and inflammation but on it's liver protective and regenerating properties. If your pet does have a pre-existing condition, has a surgery planned, or is pregnant, it is advisable to talk with your vet before introducing a new supplement. Vote down - Vote up

Product: Best Vitamin D (1000IU 180 softgels)
Asked on: January 13, 2016
Question: How much Vitamin D should I take. I am a 40 year old male and live in Alaska where day light is limited in the winter.

0 0 A: Growing evidence shows that vitamin D plays a crucial role in disease prevention and optimal health. There are thousands of genes in the body and vitamin D effects nearly all of them including vitamin D receptors. Dr. Robert Heaney MD one of the premier vitamin D researchers in the world concludes that the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) should be 10 times higher than Institute of Medicine recommends (600IU daily). Vitamin D is produced when ultraviolet rays of sunlight strike the skin and trigger vitamin D synthesis. Limited sunlight exposure can dramatically change the levels of vitamin D our body makes. 1,000-2,500 IU of Vitamin D per day are commonly used for those who may not be gaining vitamin D from the sunlight exposure. There is an abundant amount of controversy over how much vitamin D do we really need. Ongoing research and studies continue to conclude, how really important this "sunshine" vitamin is in preventing disease. The best indicator of your vitamin D status is a blood test called 25-hydroxy, vitamin D, which reflects the amount of vitamin D you receive from sunlight in the skin and how much you consume from nutrition and supplements.
