The all-natural alternative to viagra, Horny Goat Weed provides powerful effects on your libido and sexual drive.
True to its comical name, Horny Goat Weed is an herb that works to naturally enhance sexual libido and performance. It originates from Asia, Korea, and the Mediterranean and has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries. Horny Goat Weed is known by several names. The Chinese call it Yin Yang Huo which can be translated to “licentious goat plant.” Chinese legend maintains that a herder noticed his goats became more sexually active after consuming the plant. Horny Goat Weed is considered Epimedium in the United States because it is part of the Epimedium genus of plant species, many of which are used to promote health and wellness. This rhizomatous perennial herb grows in shady areas such as cliff crevices and on hillsides. The plant blooms in spring with light yellow, violet, red, and white flowers. It produces oval fruits and the stems contain one to three basil leaves. The medicinal properties of Horny Goat Weed are contained primarily within the plant’s leaves and roots. Horny Goat Weed retains a long history of being used most effectively as an aphrodisiac and to improve sexual drive and pleasure in both men and women. There have even been some claims of its ability to help treat erectile dysfunction in some men and to improve sperm count and motility. It is also said to help improve premature ejaculation. Horny Goat Weed is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine that has also been noted for its use in treating joint, liver, kidney, and back disorders. It has shown to increase energy levels and help to relieve menopausal discomfort. However, Horny Goat Weed is still most recognized and embraced as a sexual enhancer.
Understanding the intricacies of sexual fulfillment, satisfaction, and performance is still in its infancy in the Unites States. We are also in the beginning stages of medical treatments for sexual dysfunction and waning libido. The highly-recognized “little blue pill,” Viagra, was only just introduced in 1998 to help overcome erectile dysfunction. Studies show that at least 30% of men between the ages of 40-70 years express dissatisfaction with their sex lives. The Massachusetts Male Aging Study reports that this sexual dissatisfaction is largely related to erectile dysfunction. It also pertains to a lack of intimacy and suppressed desire. Studies show that women express even higher levels of sexual dissatisfaction at 42% of women wishing their sex lives would improve. As more progress is made in the study and treatment of sexual enjoyment and performance, men and women alike can begin to find encouraging aids that move them in the direction of sexual fulfillment. Horny Goat Weed can be a healthy, safe, and effective method to naturally working your way into an enjoyable and satisfying sex life.
It is still unclear exactly how Horny Goat Weed works in the body to cause increased sexual desire and performance. However, there is evidence that this energizing herb inhibits an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase (AChE). AChE can stop neurotransmission of cholinergic synapses, which are needed for efficient responses of the neuromuscular system. Horny Goat Weed’s ability to inhibit AChE promotes higher levels of the neurotransmitters associated with sexual arousal such as norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine. Horny Goat Weed has also been found to reduce cortisol levels. The leaves of the Horny Goat Weed plant are full of flavonoids, an alkaloid called magnaflorine, and sterols. The key flavonoid contained in Horny Goat Weed is Icariin. Icariin has been used to effectively help promote healthy erectile function. There is some evidence that suggests Horny Goat Weed works by increasing nitric oxide levels which relaxes smooth muscle, thus allowing more blood-flow to the penis or clitoris. Consequently, enhancing sexual pleasure and improving orgasm. Horny Goat Weed may also act by inhibiting the enzyme PDE-5 in the body, which is the same mechanism of action as the popular male sexual stimulant, Viagra.
Horny Goat Weed is still a fairly new option for western countries in the treatment of sexual function and for its use as an aphrodisiac. Most research performed on the use of Horny Goat Weed has been completed in Chinese studies. One study was performed to determine the effect of Horny Goat Weed on healthy men and healthy men who were taking Viagra.
Methods In this study, 25
healthy men (HM) and 13 men
(VM) who used Viagra were
assigned to initially receive
daily therapy for 45 days with
two capsules (808 mg x 2) of a
commercially-prepared herbal
complex of epimedium
grandiflorum, maca pure
(lepidium meyenii), mucuna
pruriens, and polypodium
vulgare . An additional four
capsules (3232 mg) were taken
one to two hours prior to
sexual activity to determine
its effect on sexual interest,
sexual performance, and
overall sexual satisfaction.
After 45 days, the
double-blind phase of the
study began with a placebo
product and active product
randomly given to healthy men
(HM) who had reported a
positive response and taken
for two weeks to four weeks.
All subjects were evaluated
after the first 45 days of
treatment and finally after 60
days.

The results of the study indicated that 13 of the 20 healthy men had a positive response to the herbal mixture (Horny Goat Weed) and 6 of the 13 men on Viagra experienced a positive response. During the double-blind study, none of the healthy men experienced a positive response to the placebo drug. The conclusion to the study is that 60% of men experienced enhanced sexual pleasure and performance after taking the herbal mixture that is Horny Goat Weed for a minimum of 45 days. The study also concluded that 45% of the men taking Viagra experienced enhanced sexual satisfaction. Horny Goat Weed seems to produce a testosterone-like effect that works to maximize sexual pleasure.

Research concerning Horny Goat Weed has been performed specifically on patients with chronic renal failure and kidney disorders. One Chinese study evaluated the effect of Epimedium on 22 patients in chronic renal failure on hemodialysis. In the trial, 12 of the 22 patients served as controls. The patients given the Horny Goat Weed reported enhanced sex and a better quality of life.
Horny Goat Weed has also demonstrated the ability to help regulate immunodeficiency in patients undergoing hemodialysis. In another Chinese study, circulating levels of soluble IL-2 receptor (sIL-2R) and IL-6 in patients being treated with hemodialysis were measured. The patients were given a 3 month course of Horny Goat Weed treatment. The study showed that sIL-2R levels were significantly elevated while IL-6 levels were decreased in patients with end-stage renal failure. The results of the study revealed that levels of both sIL-2R and IL-6 could be restored to normal after 3 months of treatment with Horny Goat Weed. The study confirmed two important factors. First, patients with end-stage renal failure do experience immunodeficiency. Secondly, the confirmed immunodeficiency can be regulated with the appropriate use of Horny goat Weed.
Horny Goat Weed has not been used in western countries long enough to have a complete understanding of its potential side effects. Most research involving Horny Goat Weed has indicated no serious side effects when the herb is used in moderation. It is recommended that Horny Goat Weed be used for limited periods of time as there is little to no information on the possible long-term side effects of Horny Goat Weed when used chronically for extended periods of time. It is important to note that Horny Goat Weed has a stimulating nature and could possibly increase heart rate or cause heart rhythm irregularities. It has also been linked to insomnia when taken in high doses. Insomnia or experiencing shallow, unrestful sleep is the most common, negative side effect of Horny Goat Weed. There is some evidence that also suggests Horny Goat Weed taken in high doses might inhibit cholinesterase enzyme in the body, which could result in high levels of acetylcholine buildup and decrease muscle control, even causing jerky movements. Research also indicates that excessive levels of the flavonoid Icariin, a key component of Horny Goat Weed, may be toxic to the kidneys and liver. The important factor in taking Horny Goat Weed safely to avoid possible side effects is to take it in moderation and for isolated periods of time. The positive effects of Horny Goat Weed are enhanced sexual desire and pleasure, improvement of erectile dysfunction, increased sperm, increased stimulation of sensory nerves, and maximized sexual performance. Horny Goat Weed is effective for both men and women. Patients taking this herb that increases energy and libido can expect to see results in approximately 3-5 days.
