Questions and answers:

Asked on: October 21, 2015
Question: How much calcium should I take per day? I am a 53 year old woman..
  • Admin AnswerA: The RDA (recommended daily allowance) of calcium is 1000mg for both men and women. Calcium plays an important role in our body strengtehing bones and teeth. Calcium is lost daily in our hair, nails, sweat, feces and urine. This calcium must be replaced, or it will take calcium from the bones to perform other functions. Eating foods high in calcium such as dairy and dark green leafy vegetables are excellent choices for calcium intake. For those who don't get enough calcium in their daily diet, supplementing with calcium is important. Studies suggests that calcium along with Vitamin D, may have far reaching benefits including protecting against cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes. Further studies are needed to show evidence of these health benefits.
