Goldenseal is the dried rhizome and rootlets of the Hydrastis canadensis- a small flowering herb found throughout parts specific parts of Canada and the United States of America. Tribes native to these areas used the herb Goldenseal as a remedy for digestive complaints, as an anti-inflammatory, and wound healing. During the late 1780's, an American botanist and Doctor of Medicine by the name of Benjamin Smith Barton, made note of the Native Cherokee using Goldenseal to help cure cancer in conjunction with algae harvested from surrounding waters. Goldenseal is also a known emmenagogue, an herb which has been proven to increase circulation, and stimulate blood flow.
