The flax is not crushed, so the precious oil is retained. Vacuum-packed in 1 lb. lined, resealable foil bag to retain freshness. Flax seeds offer both lignans and essential fatty acids (EFA's). EFA's are essential for maintaining good health by acting as building blocks in cell membranes and aiding in the production of hormone-like substances that are necessary for energy metabolism.* Flax seed also contains high concentrations of lignans, making it the richest available source. Plant lignans are converted in the colon by bacterial fermentation into a form of lignans that can be used by humans. Lignans are structurally similar to estrogens and work within the body to balance estrogen levels.*
