What is cascara sagrada good for? Cascara sagrada is a natural laxative and can work effectively for many in 6-12 hours by helping the muscles contract in the intestines. Cascara sagrada is made from the reddish brown bark of a tree ( Rhamnus purshiana) native to western North America.
